To find out what is available at the NHM  please search the records on the CryoArks database ( by typing ‘Cell’ or ‘Chromosomes’ into the express search and selecting ‘All’. Or, alternatively by typing ‘CryoArks’ into the search box on the NHM data portal ( You can also contact Kirsty Lloyd at the NHM directly ( and the relevant sample metadata and appropriate request forms will be sent to you.
There is no charge to bona fide researchers, but those requesting aliquots of cell lines may be asked to replace and return a similar quantity of cells so that they may continue to be available to others. Similarly, amplification of DNA probes may be requested to replace the samples provided. It is expected that these replacements will not be required once the proposed laboratory at CryoArks is operational.
